Every time someone turns on a tap and fills a glass, they are trusting a system they rarely think about. They trust the infrastructure that moves water from source to treatment. They trust the operators who monitor it around the clock. And they trust the laboratory data that confirms it is safe to drink.
This week is National Drinking Water Week (May 3–9, 2026), and SPL Environmental is taking a moment to recognize the people on both sides of that trust.
To Our Clients: Thank You
To the water system operators, municipal utility managers, compliance professionals, and environmental engineers we work with every day: what you do matters in ways most people never see.
You manage aging infrastructure under tightening regulations. You respond to sampling results at odd hours. You make treatment decisions that protect public health for entire communities. You document everything, defend everything, and keep the system running whether or not anyone notices. We notice.
SPL Environmental’s accredited labs exist to support your work with accurate, defensible data you can trust when regulators and communities are counting on you. You are the reason we hold our testing to the standard we do. We are grateful every day to work alongside you.
To Our Environmental Lab Technicians: Thank You
Behind every drinking water compliance report is a person who prepared the sample, ran the analysis, reviewed the QC, and signed off on the data.
Our environmental lab technicians do that work every day, across SPL’s national laboratory network, processing drinking water samples that support public health protection for millions of Americans who drink from public water systems. They apply EPA-approved methods with precision. They maintain chain-of-custody records that regulators and operators depend on. And they do it without recognition from the communities their work protects, because that is simply how the job works.
This week, we want them to know: the work is seen. The standard you hold is exactly why clients trust SPL Environmental with compliance testing that cannot afford to be wrong.
Why Drinking Water Week?
Led by the American Water Works Association, National Drinking Water Week has recognized the vital role of water professionals for several decades. Nearly 300 million Americans receive their drinking water from public water systems. Every one of those systems depends on a network of operators, engineers, laboratory analysts, and support professionals who keep safety and compliance at the center of every decision.
“Safe drinking water is something
people count on every day, often without a second thought,” said AWWA CEO David
LaFrance. “Drinking Water Week is an opportunity to recognize the professionals
who make that service possible and to reflect on the continued work it takes to
maintain and strengthen the systems our communities depend on.”
The regulatory environment around drinking water is not getting simpler. PFAS monitoring requirements are expanding. Documentation standards are tightening. The expectations placed on water systems and their laboratory partners are higher than they have ever been.
The professionals doing this work deserve recognition that matches the complexity of what they manage.
