Colorado Analytical Labs, part of the SPL Environmental network, has been formally designated as part of Colorado’s Principal State Laboratory Network, reinforcing the laboratory’s role as a trusted provider of state regulated drinking water testing and a key partner to public water systems across the state.
This designation follows the closure of the former state laboratory operated by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Under federal drinking water regulations and to ensure that states maintain control of drinking water oversight and compliance, states are required to either maintain a state laboratory, designate an accrediting body, or demonstrate that qualified private laboratories can provide all required state-regulated testing. Colorado elected to designate a limited number of Principal State Laboratories rather than adopt the NELAC accreditation model. The State of Colorado and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s review identified Colorado Analytical Labs as one of the private laboratories capable of supporting the full scope of Colorado’s regulated drinking water testing needs.
