What Is Changing
Effective July 20th, all SPL Environmental Laboratory locations are transitioning to a single, standardized client deliverable. The new format was designed from the ground up to be clean, consistent, and complete, built around what environmental professionals actually need to see when they open a results package.
Specifically, the new format standardizes:
- Layout and visual structure – Every report follows the same page design, section order, and data presentation regardless of which SPL lab processed the samples. If you work with our Reading, PA location one month and our Commerce City, CO location the next, the reports will look and read the same way.
- Qualifier and flag presentation – Data qualifiers, the notations that flag results for method hold time issues, matrix interference, surrogate recovery, and other QA conditions, will appear in a consistent format and location across all reports. No more hunting for the qualifier key or reconciling different flag systems between lab locations.
- Units and detection limit reporting – Method detection limits (MDLs), reporting limits (RLs), and units of measure will follow a consistent presentation format, making comparison across sample sets and locations straightforward.
- Project and chain of custody information – Project identifiers, sampler information, sample IDs, collection dates and times, and chain of custody references all appear in a standardized header block, simplifying record-keeping and audit preparation.
- QA/QC summary presentation – Batch QC results, blanks, duplicates, matrix spikes, and surrogates, will be presented in a consistent layout that makes review faster and documentation cleaner.
What Is Not Changing
The new format is a client deliverable improvement. It does not affect the underlying analytical work, accreditations, turnaround times, or the project teams you already work with.
- Your accreditations remain the same. SPL Environmental Laboratories maintain NELAP/TNI accreditation, or relevant state certifications, at our lab locations. The certifications that make your data defensible in regulatory and legal contexts are unaffected.
- Your turnaround times remain the same. Rush, standard, and project-specific turnaround commitments are not changing.
- Your contacts remain the same. The project managers, client services representatives, and technical staff you work with at each location are staying in place.
- Your data remains defensible. The analytical quality of SPL results has always been the foundation of what we deliver. The new format is a better wrapper around the same defensible data.
For Multi-Location Clients
SPL operates a national network of environmental laboratory locations, which is a significant advantage for clients running programs across multiple states or regions. You can submit samples from a Gulf Coast industrial facility and a Colorado water utility through the same laboratory relationship and receive results under unified quality standards.
