The Science of Sure® Starts With Accurate, Defensible Data

At SPL, laboratory data quality is not a department. It is the foundation every analysis, every report, and every client relationship is built on. Because our clients make regulatory, operational, and financial decisions based on our results, we treat every sample as if the outcome depends on getting it exactly right. It always does.

SPL’s commitment to laboratory data quality begins with accredited testing programs governed by ISO/IEC 17025, NELAP/TNI, and applicable state accreditation frameworks across our nationwide laboratory network. Because accurate, defensible data directly affects custody transfer decisions, regulatory submissions, remediation outcomes, and operational performance, SPL has built multi-level review processes, independent quality oversight, and a leadership culture that consistently reinforces the importance of getting every result right the first time. Our laboratory data quality commitment is woven into every sample we receive, every analysis we perform, and every report we deliver across both our energy and environmental laboratory divisions.

Energy and Environmental Laboratory Data Quality

Energy Labs Data Quality

ISO/IEC 17025 Framework

ISO/IEC 17025 is the internationally recognized standard for testing and calibration laboratory competence. Because ISO/IEC 17025 addresses staff competence, equipment performance, method validation, and measurement traceability, clients working with accredited SPL locations receive results produced under an independently assessed quality framework.  Contact our team to learn what your SPL location’s scope of accreditation is.

Analysis Review and Quality Control

Every energy laboratory result undergoes a review process before release to the client. Because SPL energy laboratories function primarily in support of operational and custody transfer decisions, our quality control program is built around both systematic review and long-term trend analysis. Results are evaluated against established parameters, and flagged results receive additional attention before data is released. Clients receive analytical data that has been checked for accuracy and consistency.

Methods and Standards

SPL energy laboratory analyses follow methods established by GPA Midstream, ASTM International, API, EPA, SAE International, NLGI, and other applicable industry organizations. Our SPL scientists and team of experts actively participate in several of these organizations as technical contributors, so our method knowledge reflects current industry practice.

Questions About Your Results?

When you have a question about an energy laboratory result, your project manager initiates a thorough inquiry process that leaves no stone unturned. Because our clients trust that data will be correct the first time, we communicate back quickly and discuss your questions and the analysis in as much detail as you need.

Environmental Data Quality

NELAP/TNI Accreditation

SPL environmental laboratories hold accreditation in accordance with the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program administered through TNI, The NELAP Institute, or under state certification requirements where NELAP is not available. State-specific certifications support compliance programs in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Texas, Colorado, and additional states where we operate.

Three Levels of Data Review

Because environmental laboratory data supports regulatory submissions, remediation decisions, and public health protection, SPL’s environmental quality program includes three independent review levels. First, the analyst reviews results in detail against quality control requirements. Second, a Quality Specialist conducts an independent data validation review. Third, your dedicated project manager reviews the final report before it reaches you. As a result, every environmental result passes three independent checkpoints before delivery.

Accreditation Scope and Coverage

SPL environmental laboratories hold NELAP/TNI accreditation and state certifications for drinking water, non-potable water, soil, and solid and chemical waste materials across our network. Because accreditation scope varies by laboratory location, we recommend contacting our team to confirm specific certification coverage for your project location and regulatory program.

Data Inquiry?

When you have a question about a result, your project manager initiates a thorough inquiry process that leaves no stone unturned. Because our clients trust that data will be correct the first time, we communicate back quickly and discuss your questions and the analysis in as much detail as you need. Ensuring you understand and feel confident in your results is our priority.

Measurement Data Quality - Data Validation Beyond Standard Reporting

Most measurement service providers give you software-generated reports. SPL goes further. Our data validation process layers a rigorous, expert-reviewed audit over every report before it leaves our team, combining automated audits with multiple levels of human review and corrective action.

The result: measurement data that protects you from costly custody transfer disputes, compliance risk, and revenue uncertainty. Every proving result arrives with the confidence that it has been checked, validated, and verified by people who understand what the numbers mean.

Accreditation Bodies and Industry Standards

SPL laboratories operate under quality frameworks established by independent accreditation bodies and follow analytical methods developed by leading industry standards organizations. Because accreditation requires ongoing audits and demonstrated technical competence, our accreditation status reflects a continuous commitment rather than a one-time achievement. State-specific accreditation coverage varies by laboratory location. Contact our team for confirmation of certification status for your specific project state and matrix requirements.
