Redefining Scale Management

DYNAMIC SCALE LOOP TESTING Overview

Dynamic Scale Loop (DSL) Testing, a cornerstone of SPL’s advanced scale management strategies, goes beyond traditional assessments by evaluating scale growth under real-world flowing conditions. This method not only determines the effectiveness of scale inhibitors in arresting scale growth but also provides a precise Minimum Effective Dose (MED) of scale inhibitor needed to prevent build-up for each unique system. Operating at temperatures exceeding 400°F, pressures reaching 5000 psi, and flow rates of up to 10 mL/min, we can ensure comprehensive insights into scale inhibition across diverse operational scenarios.

The process involves pumping anionic and cationic brines separately, then mixing them at specified temperature and pressure through a narrow bore capillary tube. The resulting increase in differential pressure serves as a reliable indicator of scale formation in the capillary. The test generates a detailed plot of differential pressure over time, offering a clear visualization of scale inhibitor MEDs and empowering proactive decision-making in scale management.
