We perform fuel quality testing by ASTM D1218 to measure the refractive index of transparent and light-colored hydrocarbons. This test method also covers a procedure for measuring the refractive dispersion. Refractive index and refractive dispersion are fundamental physical properties, which can be used in conjunction with other properties to characterize pure hydrocarbons and their mixtures.
