We perform fuel quality testing by ASTM D2709 to measure the water and sediment contamination in gas, diesel, jet fuel, and other middle distillate fuels. Significant amounts of water and sediment in fuel can cause contamination in fuel-handling facilities and in an engine’s fuel system. An accumulation of sediment in storage tanks and on filter screens can obstruct the fuel oil flow from the tank to the combustor. Water in diesel and biodiesel can cause corrosion to tanks and equipment, and if detergent is present, the water can cause emulsions or a hazy appearance. Water also supports microbiological growth in fuel.
BS&W (Bottom Sediment & Water) by ASTM D2709 determines the volume of free water and sediment in diesel and biodiesel.
We also perform water content, water contamination, and water resistance testing by ASTM D1264, ASTM D1401, ASTM D1533, ASTM D1744, ASTM D1796, ASTM D4006, ASTM D4007, ASTM D4049, ASTM D4928, ASTM D95, ASTM E203, FTM 3463, IP 386, ISO 10337, ISO 3733, and IP 74. These different test methods use different instruments or procedures or are used for certain sample types. Click on the test method number to learn more about each test.
