We perform grease testing by ASTM D4693 to evaluate lubricating grease used in automotive-type wheel bearing assemblies under low temperatures. ASTM D4693 determines the extent that a grease retards the rotation of a customized spring-loaded automotive-type wheel bearing assembly at a controlled low temperature. Torque values are a measure of the viscous resistance of grease. The grease sample is packed into the test assembly, which is heated and then cooled to the specified temperature. The spindle of the assembly is rotated slowly and the torque required to prevent rotation is measured.
