We perform fuel testing by ASTM D5773 to determine the temperature where biodiesel fuel or petroleum products begin to gel, forming crystals or ‘clouds.’ This can lead to plugged filters and other engine performance problems in cool weather.
This test method only covers petroleum products and biodiesel fuels that are transparent in layers 40mm thick.
We also perform cloud point testing by ASTM D2500, ASTM D5771, DIN 51597, FTM 202, FTM 203, IP 444, IP 446, ISO 3015, MIL-DTL-17111 §4.5.3.2, and MIL-H-22072 §4.6.7. These different test methods use different instruments or procedures or are used for certain sample types. Click on the test method number to learn more about each test.
ASTM D5773 corresponds to IP 446.
