Fuels & Lubricants Testing Capabilities

ASTM D5798 Standard Specification for Ethanol Fuel Blends for Flexible-Fuel Automotive Spark-Ignition Engines

April 10, 2024

We perform ethanol quality testing by Specification ASTM D5798, which covers the requirements for automotive fuel blends of ethanol and gasoline. These fuel blends are used in ground vehicles equipped with ethanol fuel blend flexible-fuel spark-ignition engines. Fuel produced according to this specification contains 51-83 volume % ethanol, and is referred to at retail as ‘Ethanol Flex-Fuel.’ ASTM D5798 formerly covered Fuel Ethanol (ED70-Ed85) for Automotive Spark-Ignition Engines, also known commercially as E85. The nomenclature ‘fuel ethanol’ has been changed to ‘ethanol fuel blends’ to distinguish this product from ASTM D4806 – Denatured Fuel Ethanol Specification.

For additional information on this test method or to purchase a copy of the method, please click HERE to open a new window and visit the ASTM website.

The following is a list of tests required by Specification ASTM D5798. Some of these tests are customized for this exact specification. SPL specializes in unusual and custom testing, and our testing capabilities are continuing to expand; to discuss the exact testing you need, contact us today. To see more information about one of these tests, click on the test method name below.
