We perform testing by ASTM D5972 to find the temperature below which solid hydrocarbon crystals form in aviation turbine fuels; this is the freeze point. These crystals can restrict the flow of fuel through the fuel system of the aircraft. The freezing point of the fuel must always be lower than the minimum operational fuel temperature.
We also perform freeze point testing by ASTM D1177, ASTM D2386, IP 16, and IP 435. These different test methods use different instruments or procedures or are used for certain sample types. Click on the test method number to learn more about each test.
Sample quantity required: 10 ml
ASTM D5972 corresponds to IP 435.
