We perform testing by ASTM D611 to determine the aniline point of petroleum products and hydrocarbon solvents. The aniline point (or mixed aniline point) is useful as an aid in the characterization of pure hydrocarbons and in the analysis of hydrocarbon mixtures. Aromatic hydrocarbons exhibit the lowest aniline values, and paraffins exhibit the highest aniline values. Cycloparaffins and olefins exhibit aniline values that lie between those for paraffins and aromatics. Although it occasionally is used in combination with other physical properties in correlative methods for hydrocarbon analysis, the aniline point is most often used to provide an estimate of the aromatic hydrocarbon content of petroleum product mixtures.
We also perform aniline point testing by DIN 51775, IP 2, ISO 2977, and MIL-DTL-17111 §4.5.3.1. These different test methods use different instruments or procedures or are used for certain sample types. Click on the test method number to learn more about each test.
