We perform lubricants testing by ASTM D665 to evaluate an oil’s ability to prevent the rusting of metal parts when water is mixed with the oil. In many instances, such as in the gears of a steam turbine, water can become mixed with the lubricant, which can cause the metal parts of the system to rust. This test indicates how well inhibited mineral oils prevent this type of rusting. This test method is also used for testing hydraulic and circulating oils, including heavier-than-water fluids. It is used for specification of new oils and monitoring of in-service oils.
Sample quantity required: 800 ml
ASTM D665 corresponds to IP 135.
