SPL applies AcuFlow, a nanoscale surface modification treatment, to the wetted interior surfaces of flow meters and measurement equipment during scheduled calibration, proving, and pull-and-clean service events.

AcuFlow modifies metal at the molecular level, bonding at 2 to 4 nanometers thick. It creates an omniphobic barrier that is simultaneously oil-repellent and water-repellent, resisting the adhesion of:

  • Paraffin and paraffin wax deposits
  • Asphaltenes and crude oil residue
  • Inorganic scaling including barium sulfate and calcium carbonate
  • Produced water organic films

Does AcuFlow affect meter calibration or measurement accuracy?

No. AcuFlow is 2 to 4 nanometers thick, optically clear, and dimensionally neutral. It does not interfere with calibration factors, Coriolis tube vibration frequency, magnetic field measurement, or turbine rotation. Multiple field deployments on custody transfer meters confirm that treated meters maintain their calibration history without adjustment.

AcuFlow is compatible with Coriolis flow meters, magnetic flow meters, turbine meters, guided wave radar level transmitters, optical sensors, and stainless steel meter runs and flow spools. No. AcuFlow slows the rate of deposit accumulation and reduces the adhesion strength of deposits that do form, extending the window between cleaning events and reducing cleaning labor when service occurs. It does not permanently prevent all fouling under all conditions. In some applications, cleaning intervals have been extended by months. In others, the primary benefit is reduced labor and faster turnaround during planned cleaning events.

Paraffin fouling occurs when stabilized crude with reduced light-end content loses capacity to keep paraffin in solution, allowing crystallization and adhesion to untreated metal surfaces. Asphaltenes precipitate during pressure drops, temperature changes, or when crude blends with different solubility parameters are mixed. Both deposit types adhere because untreated metal has high surface energy that is favorable to hydrocarbon adhesion.
