We understand how difficult it can be to assess the paraffin deposition risk for a well or a process system
Thoroughly equipped to deal with challenges surrounding paraffin formation
We have expertise in solving field paraffin operation issues that involve risk assessment, chemical testing and selection, and program tracking and improvement. We’re dedicated to addressing challenges associated with paraffin issues and focus on ensuring the uninterrupted flow of hydrocarbon streams from the reservoir to the point of sale by providing thorough analysis and insights.
Paraffin Testing Overview
- Testing and Analysis: SPL uses specialized methods and devices to measure the temperature, amount, and composition of paraffin in crude oil samples. This helps to evaluate their flow characteristics and paraffin deposition potential for risk assessment and performance testing of paraffin inhibitors, dispersants, and depressants.
- Risk Assessment and Modeling: We employ scenario modeling to predict the occurrence of paraffin deposits and other flow assurance problems under different operating conditions. This helps operators to foresee and prevent potential disruptions.
- Chemical Solutions: Best-in-class, independent chemical analysis and dose rate optimization for paraffin chemicals that are designed to remove paraffin or reduce the risks related to paraffin deposition and other flow assurance challenges.
- Remediation and Optimization: In case of paraffin deposition, companies can design and implement treatments using solvents and continuous paraffin inhibitor injections to handle the issue downhole in the production tubing and flowlines. SPL can help in assessing the effectiveness of these products in an independent evaluation.
- Flowback and Production Monitoring: Monitoring the performance of the paraffin treatment program is essential to ensure the efficiency of the flow assurance program. Our engineers have the field experience to work with your engineers and experts to assess the risks of these applications.
Paraffin Deposition: Cold Finger
- The Cold-finger apparatus has frequently been used for the purpose of screening and selection of chemical additives for paraffin control and remediation with the capability to utilize up to 30 fingers at once.
- The deposition cell includes a metal cylinder that referred to as the cold-finger probe is chilled using a cooling system.
- At the end of a paraffin deposition experiment, total mass and observations are recorded. Further compositional analysis of the organic deposit can be conducted if desired
Paraffin Deposition: Flow Loop
Our custom deposition flow loop simulates the effects of paraffin deposition and flowability in oil and gas pipelines. In the closed flow loop setup, the hot oil is flowing inside of a pipe-in-pipe configuration, while a counter-current cold coolant is flowing in the outside. The dimensions of the tubing and the flow rate can be adjusted to mimic different shear regimes.
Testing can be conducted that can measure the
- Wax appearance temperature, wax content %, and paraffin composition of crude oil samples
- The amount and rate of paraffin deposition under different flow conditions.
- Performance and compatibility of various chemical inhibitors, dispersants, and solvents that can prevent or mitigate paraffin deposition.
This data can be reported directly or further utilized for additional modeling studies.
Paraffin Deposition: Rheology
- A variety of different geometry-types can be used to mimic shear conditions in the field.
- Crude oil can be tested alone or in multiphase conditions that include both produced water and gas under ambient and high-pressure conditions
- Small volumes of oil required for each test
- Can be used to determine suitability of production chemicals or as a dose rate optimization tool
